Callum Fairbairn | Postdoc IAS Astrophysical Fluid Dynamics

Hello – I’m Callum! As a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Advanced Study, I am lucky to spend my time thinking about a variety of problems in astrophysical fluid dynamics. I’m particularly interested in warped and distorted astrophysical discs – whether that be tilted discs around spinning black holes or protoplanetary discs being warped by misaligned late-stage infall. I also study and develop tools for investigating perturber-disc interactions such as black holes embedded in AGN, or planets ploughing through their protoplanetary discs.

Outisde of the office I love to explore nature; whether that be back home in the Highlands of Scotland, or out bagging National Parks here in the US.
